Every year the Las Vegas pool season starts earlier. Among the major complexes already open and operating are Wet Republic at MGM Grand, Moorea at Mandalay Bay, Bare at Mirage, Encore Beach Club at Encore, Liquid at Aria, Voodoo at the Rio, and Palms Pool at the Palms. Soon to open are Garden of the Gods at Caesars Palace, Tao at Venetian, Azure at Palazzo, Daydream at M Resort, Naked at the Artisan, and the notorious Sunday Rehab parties at the Hard Rock. New this year are Gossip at Rumor, Marquee at Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and Nikki Beach at the Tropicana. Most of these function similar to nightclubs, in that there are admission fees and lofty prices on drinks. Of course, access to the pools this time of year is highly dependent on the weather, which is beginning to turn the corner toward the typical scorching summer levels.
Show Closing: Add another long-running entertainment staple to the Strip casualty list. American Superstars has announced that it will close at the Stratosphere at the end of March. No replacement for the show has been announced.
Shania to Caesars?: Country-music chanteuse Shania Twain appears to be heading to Caesars Palace. Though a gig has not been confirmed, Twain is in talks to headline at the Colosseum when Celine Dion is on break.
Chef Changes Venues: Carla Pellegrino, formerly the chef at Caesars Palace’s Rao’s, is taking her meatballs (recipes) to the Tropicana. Her new restaurant there will be called Bacio by Carla Pellegrino.
Question: Are there any particularly good choices for watching the March Madness Final Four and Championship games?
Answer: There many. But if you’re looking on the frugal side, you can find some combination of $1 hot dogs and $1-$3 beers at Gold Coast, Orleans, South Point, the Palms, and Station Casinos all over town.
