Rapper Tupac Shakur’s Digital Resurrection Gets Mixed Reviews

Huntington Press author and Forbes contributing writer Cathy Scott, who wrote best-seller The Killing of Tupac Shakur, shares her thoughts and those of others about the murdered rapper’s recent “appearance” at the Coachella music festival.

Stir it up, the hologram did. The performance, according to the Wall Street Journal, may be just the beginning. It has prompted talk of taking the Tupac hologram on a world tour. And the hologram now has its own Twitter account. The @HologramTupac page description says, “I rap and I’m a hologram.”

Columbia University professor Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, appearing on CNN’s “Starting Point,” seemed baffled by the hologram. “It’s creepy,” he said. “It’s almost like necrophilia. Of course, I’m going to go see it. And I’ll talk about how creepy it was.”

Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother, who had given Dre and Snoop a nod to have the hologram designed, according to TMZ, gave it a thumbs up. Watching a live online stream of the performance, she was “positively thrilled.”
